Love Alarm (S2): Do we need an app to know our true feelings?

Just imagine, you are walking through a path of trees on the sidewalk after a long day at work. Taking a sip of your favorite coffee, listening to the music played by a busker nearby, and bang! You get a notification from an app on your phone saying “Someone within 100 meters loves you.” What would it feel like?

But, the same question arises again ‘How much will you trust it? Suspiciously or blindly?’
Okay, what if there’s really an app that helps you figure out your true feelings for someone? How much will you be able to trust it? After all, it’s just an app, a human-made algorithm. Will… you just follow it blindly or would you consider your own feelings about it too?

These are some questions that came to my mind after completing the second season of the Netflix show “Love Alarm”. The story is about a world where an app like this exists. Not ending here, the app is considered over everything for the characters. Their own feelings too. The moral of both seasons was also to bring out this message. The message of not totally relying on an app to figure out your entire feelings, but it really took our characters two seasons to understand it.

Love Alarm is a simple love story. A love triangle to be exact. The entire show (both first and second season) depends on the choices made by the female character Kim Jojo. Her choices in friendships, life, and love. We learn about how first love’s not everything in life but choosing the right one is.

If you observe closely the app doesn’t actually tell you the person who loves you. It will just notify you about the number of people attracted to you, i.e. have a crush on you within a meter radius. It’s infatuation what you learn about and not love, and this is what people need to understand. Be it the one inside the show or out in the real world. Dependency on the app is what we can see throughout the show in every single character.

We live in a world where translation apps can’t work properly and here we are trusting an app for our true feeling. Of course, the app doesn’t exist in our world right now but seeing the growth in technology these days, it won’t take too long for us to create such an app. But what do you think about it? Will you trust and make it a part of your daily life or would just go for the old school method?

“One is bigger than any other number in the world.”

Of course, love letters still trump electronic messages. Don’t they? Letters, small gestures, handmade gifts, and slowly developing feelings with time, aren’t they the right kind of method? I know, it’s a whole roller coaster ride but still the most effective one to date. In the end, we can’t neglect but agree that ‘One is the bigger than any other number in the world’.

What are your thoughts on this tech-waves app? Would you let an app help you know your feelings or would you consider your own heart’s wavelength instead?
